Living with a nine month old is an exciting time. They are constantly learning and growing! They are so much different than the little baby you brought back from the hospital. Just think about it, just nine months ago you (or whoever was carrying your baby) was nine months pregnant!
Let’s take a look at some of the milestones you can be expecting from your nine month old baby.
- Clingy with familiar adults (that means you mom and dad!)
- Has favorite toys
- Afraid of strangers
- Understands no (although whether they listen or not is another story)
- Babbles (dadada, mamama, etc.)
- Copies sounds/gestures
- Points with fingers
- Watches things as they fall
- Looks for things you hide
- Puts things in mouth
- Moves things from one hand to another
- Uses finger and thumb to pick things up
- Stands (while holding on)
- Gets into sitting position
- Sits without support
- Pulls to stand
Remember, babies move at their own pace and nothing is a race! Maybe your baby has been doing these things for months, maybe your baby has just started, or hasn’t even started some things yet. If you do have any concerns about what your baby is or isn’t doing, talk to your pediatrician! They’ve got so much knowledge and they’re there to help you raise a healthy and happy baby.
Right now, my little one doesn’t have any favorite toys, unless you count anything that I’m currently using. Then, that’s hers and she’s angry that I’m using it. It’s still so adorable watching her crawl as quickly as she can to investigate and claim whatever is being used.
Keep giving you baby love at this stage. Play with them and engage them. They’re so curious and just want to learn. So, let them get a little messy, even get a little messy yourself! I don’t know why it’s fun to splash in the dog’s water dish, but that little happy face makes the clean up a little better. As long as they’re safe, let them discover the new world they’re living in a little bit.
While you’re celebrating your little ones, don’t forget yourself! You’re probably nothing like the new parent you were nine months ago. You know your baby better than anyone. There are days when you feel like you’re messing everything up and that’s okay. Parenting is hard, but you’re doing it.
Now, tell me a little bit about your babies! Were they crawling or walking maniacs at this point for you? Also, how can a baby find so much on the floor? It blows my mind how much fluff or other trash they manage to find.
Thank you so much for coming by and I’ll see you next time!
