These past few months I’ve been doing really well at making sure I’m spending my free time in productive ways. Most of the time I’m actually able to meet and exceed my goals for each week. I’ve been really excited about it. I’m really proud of how I’ve been able to keep myself motivated and focused on everything.
There have been a few times when P has needed more attention or I just don’t feel up to doing everything I had planned out. I make sure not to push myself too hard on those days. No matter how I’m feeling, these are a few things that I make sure I do.
Honestly, it took me a long time to get to the point where I want to exercise every day. I started exercising, then stopped, and restarted many times. I finally got a good enough routine that even on my really down days I can convince myself to do something. It doesn’t matter if it’s the shortest set of stretches. Even though I want to do more, as long as I get something done I feel way better about myself.
Drink Enough Water
Water makes your body feel good. Help yourself feel good. Get yourself a reusable water bottle and make sure you always have it with you. It takes most of the thinking out of drinking enough water.
I have a water bottle that keeps my water cold all day long. For the most part the ice that I put in it will last for one or two refillings. So even if I run out, I don’t have to go all the way back downstairs for nice cold water.
Even if it’s as short as going outside with my dog. I make sure I do this one mainly because I want to make sure that P isn’t stuck in the house all day. Sometimes we really only go into the backyard with the dogs.
Going outside, even for short periods of time makes me feel like I’ve been more productive. I try to stay off my phone, especially in the backyard, I use it as a mini reset time. Plus, P likes to eat rocks if no one is paying attention to her for very long.
I try to make sure I do a little bit of reading every day. It feels really good to get lost in a different world. Especially on days when I’m not feeling very well I make sure I take the time to get lost in a book.
It’s pretty easy to integrate it into my day also. Most days P is nice enough to let me read when I’m helping her go to sleep.
Track Mood/Self Check-In
I have found tracking my mood so helpful. I feel so much more self aware. Keeping an eye on my mood has helped me work through negative emotions and has made me more aware of all the things that make me happy. I’ve been using the same app and it’s fun to see how long I’ve been keeping track.
So, I actually started journaling because I read something about how it’s beneficial to go back and see thoughts and goals from the past.
I know I just put mood tracking and it probably sounds really similar.
It could probably be combined into one. I have it separate because that’s how I do it. I track my mood and causes of my mood in my phone. Then, I bring out my handy dandy journal and put goals, overall thoughts, tasks, etc. I use my journal as a free place. You know all those cool pictures of really organized bullet journals? That’s what my journal is starting to become. It’s nowhere near as awesome looking, but it’s mine and it helps keep me focused.
It may not seem like much, especially if you think about how short some of my work outs can be. On days when I’m feeling like I can barely take care of P, these are huge steps for me.
What are some things that you make time for everyday? Is there anything on my list that you tried? Let me know in the comment section!!
