I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Catey at OliveJuice. A million thank yous to her! Go check out her website and send her some love here.

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to bloggers by bloggers. It recognizes them for their creativity, talent, and positivity. It is also a great way, in my opinion, to give a ray of sunshine to those you nominate for the award.

Catey’s Questions

Why did you start blogging?

I’ve always loved to write. For the longest time I felt like it was the only thing I was good at. After I had my daughter, I couldn’t both work and take care of her. So, I stopped working to focus on her. Being stuck at home all day I started to get bored. I thought I would take up blogging to not only pass the time, but try and help others who may be in similar situations as I was. When I was pregnant I devoured any article I could on parenting.

If you could live in any period in history, when would it be and why?

Honestly, I’m pretty happy during this time period. I prefer learning and discovering all the wonderful things people in the past did. I don’t think I’d add any value to previous accomplishments. I have a shot at doing something wonderful and meaningful in this time period though.

What are three words that best describe you?

Short, stubborn, and caring.

I think these three words actually sums up my personality pretty well. I stick with things for as long as I’m able. I’m physically short, but also slightly short tempered. I also truly care about people. I want people to be happy and will do what I can to help others.

What’s a movie that you could practically quote, from start to finish?

Rent! I stumbled on the movie way back when and I watched it on repeat. I loved it so much that I bugged and bugged my mom to see it on Broadway as well. When they did the “live” production on Fox, I sang every word. My husband had the nerve to make a comment, “Oh, but when I do it during movies you yell at me”. Haha.

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading A Game of Thrones by George R.R Martin. That is the first book in the series. I got into it because of the TV series and since the series is almost done I figured I may as well read all the books to continue my Game of Thrones obsession.

Where did you work for your first job?

I got my first job at Denny’s! It was the biggest gift I ever could have asked for. I was 20, no job history whatsoever, and the manager took a chance on me. She is the greatest and I miss her (not necessarily the job) to this day.

What is one thing you learned in childhood that totally changed your life?

Don’t stress yourself over people who never make an effort.

Although I’m not sure if this would be necessarily considered childhood? I figured this out more so in highschool.

If sleep wasn’t necessary, what would you do with the extra time?

I’d alternate between reading, writing, and catching up on all the movies I say I’m going to watch. I’d probably spend an hour just staring at my baby sleep too. I love that girl, but she really makes it hard to do all the reading and writing I’d like to do during the day.

What’s the farthest from home you’ve ever been?

When I was younger (maybe 5ish) me and my mom visited my dad in Italy. He was stationed there, so we hadn’t seen him in a while. I very vaguely remember going to the beach with people who were baby sitting me and meeting a cute kid who I adored. We didn’t speak the same language, but I had the hugest crush on him. I also remember trying to explain salt by describing the girl with the umbrella on the label.

What is your favorite jellybean flavor?

I don’t really eat jellybeans that often. If lemon is a flavor, then I’d say that would probably be my favorite flavor.

What are you most grateful for today?

My husband. He may not always agree with me, but he supports me a million percent. Aside from my daughter, he’s my favorite person.

May: A Look Ahead

Hi Venturers! Today we’re going to be taking a look at goals and things I want to be improving for the month of May. Here we go.

  • Social media. This month I want to be increasing my social media presence. I want to create a Pinterest and keep working on my Twitter. Ultimately, (for Twitter) I’d like to have a nice balance of personal tweets as well as promotion.
  • Increase weekly view count. This month I’m trying to get my weekly views in the 100 range. We’re doing about half of that right now and I think we can reach more people.
  • Increase personal engagement. I follow so many wonderful blogs and I want to show them some love as well! This month I’m dedicating time every week where I go onto others’ sites and interact with them. I truly love what I read from others and I want to show them that this month.
  • Keep consistency and planning up!
  • I need to revamp Venture News (our newsletter). I need to find something exciting to do with it.

To Improve

  • Site look and functionality. I want to improve the overall look and feel of the site. Nothing too crazy, just a fresh paint of coat.
  • Quality. Again, I just want to make sure I’m putting out good content.
  • Posting time. I want a consistent time I put out my posts. So, I want to see if a specific time seems to work better this month.

I don’t have a fun challenge for this month. We’re also moving, so I guess if you want a fun challenge, then mine is to successfully pack and move without losing my mind. I hate moving.

Anyway. Let me know what you all think! What are your goals for the month?

As always, thank you so much for being here and I will see you next time!

April: A Look Back

Hello Venturers! Can you believe April is finished already? If you were here at the beginning of the month, you’ll know that I listed out some goals and things I wanted to improve on. So, let’s take a look back and see how we did for the month!

Fun Challenge

Completed! I actually completely forgot that I had set this kind of goal for myself. I ended up doing an Easter “photoshoot” with Little P. I will accept this win.

I did pretty well on prewriting my posts this month. There were a couple of times when I did just write and post because I let myself get behind. Overall though, I stayed ahead of the game. Another win for us.

Interaction… A definite loss for me. I let myself up swept up in my moods of “I want to talk to everyone” and “everyone better leave me alone”. This is something we will need to address for May.

Increase daily view count was a success. This month we nearly doubled our monthly views and our average daily view is double this month than it was in March. That’s so exciting! Thank you all so much for helping me achieve this goal. I’m so grateful.

Consistency was so great this month! There may have been a day or two where I posted late, but it got out the next day. I would like to look at my newsletter and find ways to improve that. A half win on this. Big win for the blog and needs improvement on the newsletter.

Quality, this one is kind of hard to judge for me. I love to write, but a lot of the time I think it’s absolutely terrible. For April I had posts that I was so excited and proud about and others where I wondered why I was even trying.

Interaction (because it was a goal and needs improvement), see above.

As a whole, I’m super excited about April. We had our highest view day ever this month, thank you all so much for that! We gained 12 new followers and even have a few people subscribed to the weekly newsletter. Again thank you so much!! I am absolutely blown away that you are all even stopping by let alone subscribing. So, a million thank yous to you this month!

As always, let me know what you think. Did you hit your goals for April? How can I help you reach your goals in the future?

8 Month Update

Another month has just flown by. I know every update I do I seem to get lost at how fast time is going and how much Little P is growing and different. It’s just so baffling! I can’t believe it.

My husband and I now have a crawler. Seeing her curiously crawl around is so much fun and so stressful. You don’t realize how much stuff you have that a baby shouldn’t be grabbing and playing with until you have a baby pulling at cords and trying to climb on everything.

We’re also finally at the age where our dog is more interested in her. He realizes she gets people food now, so he’s right below her when Little P eats. Little P is also smitten with him. He’s a pug, so they’re both small. She’ll crawl right up to him and they touch noses while they stare into each other’s souls.

Her first word was “dada”. Of course, right? She can drink from her sippy cup by herself. She can also drink from her bottle by herself, but she prefers if we feed her. She pulls herself to stand and uses furniture to walk around.

Every month I think there’s no way I could love her more because she’s already so incredible. Here we are again though. I’m just so amazed at the transformation in a matter of months.

April: A Look Ahead

All right Venturers, it’s a brand new month. So far in April I’ve already had an anniversary as well as my birthday. April is definitely one of my favorite months. Who doesn’t love their birthday months? Since it’s a new month, I decided to outline some goals and things I want to accomplish for the upcoming weeks.

  • Increase daily view count
  • Consistency! I don’t want to feel like I can take a day off, especially after really good days.
  • Quality! I want to increase my quality, both in types of posts and the actual writing.
  • Interaction! I want to increase the amount of time I spend interacting with other blogs and readers

To improve

  • I want to get in the habit of prewriting my posts again. March I got into a habit of writing and editing posts the day I wanted them out.
  • Interaction, yes it’s both a goal and an area to improve on. I have days where I’m hot and cold. So, even on days when I don’t really feel like it, I still need to interact. I love hearing from everyone! If I don’t make an effort, why should anyone else?

Fun Challenge

All right, so this isn’t really a goal for me. I don’t necessarily care if this gets completed, but it would be a bit of fun. I’ve noticed a lot of fun and cute baby photoshoots. So, this month, I’m going to try and do one myself. Little P loves getting her photo taken and it’s not like I’d be sad to have cute pictures of her. Plus, I think it would be fun to share my experiences and if it was worth it.

Thank you so much for joining me in another month! I have the month planned out and am hoping you all enjoy what I have in store for you.
If anyone has any ideas or want me to write about anything specific, please let me know! Happy April!
